Types of mesothelioma by the type of cells

Epithelial cell mesothelioma

There are almost three types of cell varieties of mesothelioma cells, which include the epithelial cells, sarcomatoid cells, and biphasic cells. The doctors who treat mesothelioma can differentiate between the three cells’ three varieties based on their appearance under a microscope. The different variety of mesothelioma tumor cells respond differently to the treatment plans. The sarcomatoid cells are very resistant to the treatment therapy, while the epithelial cells respond very nicely to the treatment.

Epithelial cell mesothelioma

Epithelial cell mesothelioma or epithelioid mesothelioma accounts for almost 70% to 75% of the mesothelioma cases occurring due to asbestos exposure. This type of cancer cells does not spread as fast as the sarcomatoid and biphasic mesothelioma tumor cells, and the prognosis for this type of cell is also better than the rest. The treatment of epithelial cell mesothelioma also requires less aggressive treatment options and cures much easily. Almost 50% of the pleural mesothelioma cases include the epithelial cells, while approximately 75% of the peritoneal tumors include the epithelial tumor cells.
