Biphasic mesothelioma

Biphasic mesothelioma

Biphasic mesothelioma is the type of mesothelioma in which the tumor cells contain both the epithelial and sarcomatoid cells. The life expectancy for this type of mesothelioma after the diagnosis depends upon the type of cell which dominates in the tumor. If the epithelial cells are dominating in the tumor, then there are chances of a better prognosis. In contrast, if the tumor contains more sarcomatoid cells, life expectancy is shorter, and the treatment is harder. Almost 30% of the pleural mesothelioma and 25% of the peritoneal mesothelioma tumors contains the biphasic cells.
