Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is one of the unusual causes of peptic ulcers. It is a rare condition in which more than one pancreatic tumors or the upper part of your small intestine, also known as the duodenum, are formed. Such tumors secrete excess amounts of the gastrin hormone, resulting in too much acid being released by the stomach that destroys the lining. The excess acid also contributes to peptic ulcers, vomiting, and other symptoms.
90 to 95 percent of individuals with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome are estimated to develop severe or chronic peptic ulcers.
