Red Meat
Red meat, including ground beef, hot dogs, steaks, hamburgers, roast beef, bacon, ham, and salami, can trigger IBS symptoms such as pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. Such animal products lack fiber and have a low water content that can cause spasms and contractions in the colon. There are also additives and nitrates in processed meats that can aggravate an already sensitive stomach.
Poultry and fish are good replacements that can usually be better tolerated by people with irritable bowel syndrome.
