Multiple Myeloma: Definition , Symptoms , Causes , Diagnosis , Types , and Treatment

Urine tests

Several urine tests assess kidney functions. These tests detect the presence and levels of substances such as proteins, glucose, and blood in the urine. Sometimes, urine is also examined under a microscope to see microscopic substances in the urine.

  • Urine protein level

The presence of light chain proteins in the urine indicates the presence of multiple myeloma in the test subject. An abnormally high level indicates the later stages of the disease.

  • Urine protein electrophoresis

The electrophoresis test is performed to check the level of proteins like Bence jones and M proteins in the urine.
