Diet and nutrition

No study or research by now has found any special restricted diet to help with MD. The doctors recommend a diet similar to the one recommended to any growing child but with a few modifications. However, some might suggest calcium supplements and vitamin D from dairy products, food rich in calcium, and sunshine exposure. However, the patients can be at risk of malnutrition and weight imbalance; therefore, the patient should see a nutritionist and dietician. The people who cannot walk and are dependent on a wheelchair are not very active and can gain excessive weight. Caloric intake is therefore restricted to control the problem of weight gain. Obesity puts more pressure on skeletal muscles and heart. A low-calorie diet has no harmful effect on the muscles.
