Viral or bacterial infections
Several studies show that some viral and bacterial infections can lead to the activation of immune system to mistakenly attack the receptors for acetylcholine thus disrupting the nerve impulse transmission between skeletal muscles and the nerves. In some cases, a prolonged pneumonia or simple flu can also prompt the condition of myasthenia gravis.
