Myasthenia Gravis Complications
Generally the complications resulting from myasthenia gravis are treatable and not cause an emergency health situation. Whereas the long term condition of myasthenia gravis patients might lead to various complications especially if a patient is on immuno-modulating therapies. The use of long-term steroid medications also predispose the patients of myasthenia gravis to several health conditions like cataracts, hyperglycemia, osteoporosis, weight gain, hypertension, avascular necrosis of hips, and opportunistic infection. Prolonged myasthenia gravis can also aggravate the already present diseases in some patients and make the recovery time longer than usual. In addition, myasthenia gravis is known as “snowflake disease” because the area of muscle weakness and the degree of muscle weakness varies from patient to patient.
