Bone Marrow Biopsy

This procedure removes a small amount of tissue from the bone marrow with the help of a thin needle. A pathologist examines the sample under a microscope to check the presence of cancerous and abnormal cells and characteristics that may be related to myelodysplastic Syndrome. The patient may be given local anesthesia before aspiration and biopsy. The lower back area, which is known as the pelvic bone is a common site for biopsy.
