Neutropenia

Lower than average production of white blood cells in the body known as neutropenia. White blood cells produce antibodies against foreign substances and protect the body from the attack of toxins and other harmful compounds such as viruses and bacterias. Due to a lack of WBCs, individuals with MDS experience frequent infections such as urinary tract infections, fever, lung infections, sinus, and skin infections.
