Maintains Body pH

Potassium is a vital electrolyte that helps to maintain body pH. Proper body pH is essential for many biochemical reactions, including the regulation of blood pressure and functioning of muscles and nerves. An imbalance of the pH can lead to a number of health problems, including muscle weakness, cramping, and irregular heartbeat. This is why replenishing potassium levels is important for maintaining optimal pH.

 Protects against stroke

According to the CDC, stroke is the 5th leading cause of deformity and death in the United States. Every year, about 800,000 people have a stroke in the U.S. alone. About 87% of all strokes are ischemic strokes, which occur when a blood clot occludes (blocks) an artery to the brain. (4)

A recent study found that potassium may help protect against ischemic stroke. The study examines the data from more than 4,700 people who had a stroke between 2003 and 2007. The researchers found that people with higher levels of potassium in their blood were less likely to have a stroke than those with lower levels.
