Keep a good posture when carrying weight
If you have a recurrent neck problem, one of the triggers of a new episode can be carrying weight with poor posture. If you’re going to the gym, make sure you’re using an appropriate technique, not only throughout the exercise but also when you take or carry the weight to the starting position.
Another application in your day-to-day has to do with carrying weight evenly. If you use a briefcase or purse, they are usually held on one side, and if they are very heavy, it will trigger uneven muscle tension in your body. In the long term, this may contribute to straining your neck muscles, especially if you’re carrying a heavy load on one of your shoulders. Try to lighten the load or use a backpack instead whenever possible.
