Muscles do not suffer solely due to low protein intake. The bones are also at risk due to short supply of protein in diet. When a person is not consuming enough protein then it will weaken his or her bones and elevate the risk of getting bone fractures. According to a study, the higher protein intake in post-menopausal women shows that there are less chances of suffering from hip fractures. The highest protein intake directly ensures a 69% lower risk. In addition, the quality of animal sources of protein also have greatest benefits as compared to the intake of plant-based proteins.  Another study involving the post-menopausal women having recent hip fractures show that the intake of 20 grams supplements of protein every day for almost half a year slows down bone loss by 2.3%.
