A protein test uses to find the amount of globulin and albumin present in the blood:

Globulin proteins differ in weight, size, and function. They are categorized by how they move on electrophoresis and consist of α1, α2, β and γ fractions. They also consist of complement, proteins, immunoglobulins (antibodies), and enzymes.

Albumin protein results in half amount of the protein present in the blood plasma. It stimulates oncotic pressure in the blood to prevent the leakage of water from the blood vessels.

The normal amount of protein level is 6 to 8 grams per deciliter (g/dl) in blood serum. Of this, albumin forms total globulins while albumin forms 3.5 to 5.0 g/dl. The ranges differ in different laboratories.
