Treatments to Manage Pain

Generally, pain is one of the most common symptoms of sickle cell anemia. It can be managed through many treatments depending on its severity.

Common pain medications are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and diclofenac. However, if the pain continues, it can also be treated with some opioid narcotics. Acute pain caused by sickle cell anemia can be treated by using ketamine.
