Painful Sexual Intercourse
This term is medically known as “dyspareunia”, in which a woman may experience the pain of varying intensity during sexual intercourse. The intensity of the pain depends on the severity of the disease. Most women experience it in advanced stages of cervical cancer. The reason behind this pain is the growth of tumor tissues and the enlargement of the reproductive organs. Swelling of the uterus and vaginal walls is considered a primary underlying factor for this sign.
Not all cases of painful sexual intercourse are due to cervical cancer, other conditions that cause inflammation of the reproductive organs such as infections can also lead to a similar sign. If you are above 35 years of age and experiencing dyspareunia, consult your doctor for further evaluation.
