Signs and Symptoms of Cervical Cancer that Require Immediate Attention

Leg or Pelvic Pain

How leg pain can be related to cervical cancer? Well, the answer lies in the anatomy of the region. As the disease progress and become more advanced, it starts pressing the nerve supply of the cervix as well as start to put pressure on adjacent nerves in the pelvic wall. As nerve supply of the legs passes from the pelvic wall area, compression on the pelvic nerves will lead to pain in the legs. The intensity of the pain depends on the size of the tumor and the pressure exerted by it on the nerves.

Involvement of leg nerves may also result in swelling of the local tissues. While swelling of the legs can be due to several other reasons, if it is accompanied by leg pain, you should consider it a warning sign of cervical cancer.

As tumor applies pressure on the pelvis, some women may also experience pain in the pelvis or abdomen. This can be felt anywhere in the abdomen. Most affected women describe this feeling as dull, aching pain or continuous pressure below the navel. Pelvic pain of cervical cancer typically worsens after sexual intercourse.
