Signs Your Foot Pain Is Serious

Ball of foot pain

The ball of the foot is the area just behind the toes. In normal conditions, this is a small, flat, triangular area. However, when it is sore, it may become swollen and bruised, triggering pain and an inability to walk normally because it is this area that you use to create an impulse in one of the final phases of walking.

Ball of foot pain can be caused by a number of problems. The most common cause is metatarsalgia, an inflammation of the metatarsal area due to overuse or wearing inappropriate shoes. You can even have a stress fracture, which features tiny cracks in the forefoot bones. They occur because of repeated use of the foot over long periods.
