Age
Even though there is no specific age limit for the development of sleep apnea, there is a particular age group with higher menace for the development of sleep apnea. Most of the literature and studies conducted revolve around the people of middle age or young adults. Children usually snore while sleeping, but only 2 to 3% of them suffer from sleep apnea. Children exposed to smoke, having less muscle tone, or facing respiratory infection may show symptoms like snoring. While in elderly people, sleep apnea is prevalent. As age increases, the symptoms also increase increases. Almost 50% of the men above age 65 face difficulty sleeping or have sleep-related complaints. One theory is that as age increases, the fat deposits in the par pharyngeal area (Region of head and neck) also increases, causing the change of body structure around pharynx and resulting in sleep apnea.
