Risk Factors for Stroke
Certain practices and having certain conditions can increase the predisposition to a stroke. These can be modifiable, that can be kept in check with medication or other interventions to bring down the chance of stroke. [5] Other factors are non-modifiable. Chances of stroke in these conditions cannot be decreased by preventive or prophylactic measures.

Age
chance of stroke increases with age. Aging causes weakened walls of blood vessels more prone to hemorrhage. About 65% of all yearly cases are reported to be in patients above the age of 65 years. The morbidity and mortality rates are also higher in elderly patients due to various co-morbidities superimposed due to aging.
