Use of illegal drugs
use of certain illicit drugs has shown to be associated with a risk for stroke. Cocaine and amphetamine are used as psychomotor stimulants and can cause a sudden surge in blood pressure. Illicit drug use has significantly spiked the stroke cases in younger patients. It is important to screen young stroke patients of any drugs for the proper treatment.
