Enlarged spleen

An enlarged spleen is both the cause and symptom of thrombocytopenia. The spleen is responsible for the maintenance of a healthy immune system and in the cleaning of blood. If the spleen becomes enlarged, it starts to store a major platelet, which then results in a lower platelet count. If the spleen is enlarged, then enough platelets will not circulate in the blood. Therefore enlarged spleen can be a sign of thrombocytopenia.
