Complications of Thrombocytopenia
If not properly treated, complications of thrombocytopenia can arise. These complications usually occur when the platelet count of the blood drops to a great extent. In mild cases, no signs are visible, but if the level of platelets drops below 10,000, then an alarming situation arises. The most crucial situation is excessive internal and external bleeding, which can give rise to many other diseases. If still not treated, then it can result in death due to the extreme loss of blood. If the bleeding starts to occur in the brain, then it can cause a brain hemorrhage. Some of the extreme complications include.
Excessive bleeding
One of the major complications of thrombocytopenia is excessive bleeding resulting in illness. Internal bleeding is not common to occur unless the blood count decreases less than 10,000. In which case, it becomes very difficult to stop the bleeding, and abnormal bleeding can be seen in the patient. Although these complications can only be seen in severe thrombocytopenia, when excessive blood loss occurs, it can give rise to many other related complications, which become extremely difficult to handle.
