Wax build-up

The wax or cerumen in the ear is produced for protective purpose. But if the wax builds up to cause impaction or ear blockage, it may cause tinnitus among other symptoms. The pressure of the wax against the sensory apparatus of the ear can cause the ears to ring. Though often overlooked as a significant cause of tinnitus, if there are accompanying symptoms of ear blockage, dizziness and congestion with tinnitus, wax build-up is the most common underlying cause. Ear wax removal is to be done professionally only, in order to avoid complications. Some people may complain of worsening tinnitus after procedures of ear wax removal. The reason behind this is the increased passage of sound waves once the blockage is relieved. However, it may be relieved with time.
