A relatively new avenue in medical treatment procedures is neuromodulation. It is a non-invasive procedure, which works by stimulating specific areas of the brain or neuron in the neural circuit. It is used for pain reduction and is now also being used for tinnitus treatment. The plan is to increase stimulation of the brain in multiple regions, which effectively drowns the tinnitus noise. Another strategical technique is to deliver similar frequency waves as the tinnitus sound, with the result of interruption between the two, the annoyance of tinnitus is relived. Device in the form of headphones is available now, with another component which sends electrical signals to the tongue and hence, stimulates the nerves there. Studies have shown this treatment to be effective in 75% of patients. It is believed to be the best treatment science has come up with to cure tinnitus. [5]
