Medications For Tonsillitis
Your doctor will prescribe specific antibiotics if tonsillitis is due to a bacterial infection. Tonsillitis caused by group A streptococcus is most commonly treated with penicillin taken by mouth for 10 days. Your doctor will prescribe an alternative antibiotic if your child is allergic to penicillin. (7)
Antibiotics
The antibiotics must be taken to the end, even if your child’s symptoms completely go away. The infection may worsen or spread to other parts of the body if you do not take all of the medication as directed. Rheumatic fever and severe kidney inflammation can occur if your child does not complete the full course of antibiotics. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you forget to give your child a dose.
Antipyretics
You can use acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) to reduce fever and minimize throat pain. You do not need to treat low fevers without pain.
Antiallergics
Some doctors also advise ant allergic to soothe the throat irritation and prevent triggers y by allergens such as dust and smoke. A teaspoon of ant allergic (e.g., cetirizine) can help your child rest and fall asleep at night.
