Swollen eyelids
Swollen eyelids can be an alarming sign if you are suffering from pink eye. A swollen eyelid happens when inflammation occurs in the connective tissues around the eye. Edema starts building up in the tissues surrounding the eye leading to swelling of these structures. Swollen eyes can be painful and non-painful. Both upper and lower eyelids can be involved.
Swollen eyelids are treated according to underlying cause. Ophthalmologist may prescribe medication or eye drops to decrease swelling of eyes. If your swollen eyes are due to allergic conjunctivitis, antihistamine eye drops are recommended to relieve symptoms. Doctor may prescribe mild steroid drops for severe allergic reaction causing pink eye.
