Older Adults
With the advancement in age, the veins and valves present in blood vessels lose their efficiency to work, and this leads to the formation of varicose veins in older adults. Each vein has valves that are about 10-15 centimeters wider. These valves close with the help of cusps and prevent the backflow of blood into the veins. But in the case of older adults, the cusps of valves do not appear efficiently close and let the backward flow of blood happen, resulting in the creation of a blood pool. The blood pool in the muscles ultimately leads to the formation of varicose veins.
