Stage 5: Ulcers and open sores

The occurrence of open sores and ulcers is the most advanced stage of vein diseases and is one of the dangerous phases of vein diseases for human health. When these ulcers and open sores start to form, it is an indication of the severity of vein disease. The skin tissues begin to breakdown due to the inadequate supply of blood as the veins are in their worst condition to circulate the blood. Ulcers occur as open wounds that continue to stay open, and they do not heal properly. As the blood is not able to circulate properly, the damaged skin then does not get any nutrients in the blood to improve the skin condition and to promote the curing process.

There are three main categories of skin ulcers, which are as follows:

Venous stasis

Arterial ulcers

Diabetic ulcers

In the 5th stage of vein diseases, the main reason behind the progression of damage in the long term chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Moreover, the patients having the 5th stage of vein diseases suffer from excruciating pain, and they find their symptoms debilitating. Also, the open wound site is at the frequent risk of getting bacterial infections. While venous stasis is one of the categories of stage 5 ulcers in which approximately 90% of the ulcers are of legs, and there is no proper treatment for these types of ulcers.
