Prevention
To reduce your risks of getting any vein disease, including varicose veins, and it is important to have a healthy lifestyle and try to take proper rest. As we know that some people might get the varicose veins if they fall into the obese category, so it is important to maintain healthy body weight. You can attain a healthy body weight by walking daily or exercising daily for almost 30 minutes. Regular exercise or by doing any physical activity, you can maintain efficient blood flow in your legs, and your legs muscles get stronger by working out. If your BMI (basal metabolic index) falls under the category of obesity, then it can aggravate the pressure of blood on your veins and increase your chances of getting varicose veins. Try to lose weight by eating intuitively and doing some moderate exercise.
Moreover, wearing tight-fitted clothes like leggings or yoga pants can squeeze your skin, which results in an abnormality in the blood flow. Try to wear a loose piece of clothing around the area of your waist, legs, and groin to avoid the constriction of blood flow. Women who wear high heels for longer durations like at work must avoid wearing high heels because it can put extra pressure on the veins of ankles and legs. You can switch to flats or low heel shoes from high heels to improve your blood circulation and avoid future complications. These flat shoes also help improve the calf muscle tone, which is an extra benefit for women. Smoking is also dangerous for the veins, and it can increase one’s chances of getting varicose veins in the future. Smokers must try their best to avoid or at least cut down the use of tobacco products to keep varicose veins at bay.
Sitting or standing for prolonged durations can also be a cause of varicose veins development. To avoid the condition of varicose veins, you can omit standing or sit for long periods. If someone’s daily routine requires them to sit for longer durations to work, they can try to take stretch breaks after every hour to keep blood circulation. You can do the stretching exercises by sitting on your office chair and reducing the pressure build up in your leg veins. Although varicose veins are temporary for pregnant women, it can be pretty painful and can also cause complications. Make sure to sleep on the left side of your body side, rather than on your back because sleeping on your back and being pregnant increases the blood pressure from the veins of the uterus towards the veins of the pelvic area and may contribute to varicose veins. Sleeping on the left side of your body improves the blood circulation to the fetus. Moreover, the women who are already prone to get varicose veins can use compression stockings to make their symptoms better.
