Gout is a form of arthritis that affects almost 4% of the adults all over the world. Gout is extremely painful and leads to inflammation of joints, particularly in people with big toes. People with gout suffer from sudden, excruciating attacks of pain and swelling in their joints. The symptoms of gout develop when there is accumulation of excess uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is basically a waste product of protein metabolism. Higher levels of uric acid tend to crystallize then deposit around the joints. Moreover, another analysis reveals that taking a supplement of vitamin C for more than 30 days can potentially reduce blood uric acid in comparison to the placebo.

However, several studies indicate that vitamin C might help in reducing the levels of uric acid in the blood and can protect you against attacks of gout. A study involving around 1387 men reveals that those who were consuming the most vitamin C have significantly lower levels of uric acid in their blood than those who were consuming least amounts of vitamin C. Another study following 46994 healthy male adults with ages over 20 years states that taking a vitamin C supplement every day can lower the gout risk by 44%.  However, more studies are in pipeline to closely look at the vitamin C influence on gout.
