Cortical cataracts
The degeneration of lens fiber in the cortex of the lens is called a cortical cataract. This cataract begins in the outer corner or cortex of the lens and then reach the center of the eye. These cataracts are white and have a wedge like appearance. There are two types of cortical cataracts.
- Posterior cortical cataract:
The development of cataract below the lens capsule in the cortex.
- Anterior cortical cataract:
The development of cataract on the front or within the lens capsule in the cortical region of the eye. 8.2 percent of people are diagnosed with cortical cataract.
