25% of congenital cataracts are caused by genetic disorders. Lowe syndromes, NF-2 are a result of some genetic mutations, which also makes the people more likely to develop cataracts. Although, no clear evidence has yet been able to explain it, but the people consuming cholesterol lowering drugs and steroid are seen to be at a higher risk of developing cataract in the eye.
