Most people are unaware of the fact that stressed people are at an increased risk of developing cataracts.  Stress increases the production of free radicals in the body.  These free radicals can alter the protein and enzymes of the lens of the eye. Moreover, during difficult times people are more drawn towards alcohol and cigarettes further increasing the risk of cataracts. Stress also leads to hypertension and a rise in blood sugar level, which may play a role in cataract pathogenesis.
