Cataracts Diagnosis
The doctor performs several tests in order to diagnose cataract. The doctor will ask the patient about his family history with cataracts and may investigate his symptoms.
Visual acuity test
In order to check the vision damage caused by the cataract, the doctor asks the patients to read out loud from a chart of letters or pictures. Each eye is separately tested. In case of suspected cataract, the doctor also asks the patients to read letters in bright light. A visual acuity test can help assess the visual loss, but in most cases more precise tests are used.
