A slit lamp examination is used to diagnose the cataract and to determine the damage caused to the vision by the cataract. The microscope used to perform this procedure is called a slit lamp. The patient is made to rest his chin on the chin rest with the patients’ eye wide open. An intense beam of light then passes through the cornea in order to have a closer and better look of different parts of the eye. The physician will then determine the type and extent of a cataract.

Disadvantages of slit lamp test:

  • The laser light can cause damage to the eye.
