Swelling and redness of the eye are the most common complications after cataract surgery. The doctors might advise the patient to use eye drops to reduce swelling. The swelling does go away in a few days, but consult the doctor if anything unusual happens.

Although these are very rare after cataract surgery, but the germs can cause infections in the eye after cataract surgery. In order to avoid eye infections, the doctor might prescribe eye drops. Just in case the infection is worse, you might get a shot of antibiotic in the eye.
