What Are Lice ? Types, How they spread, Treatment, Prevention and Takeaway

How Do Lice Spread?

Lice can infest anyone, but they are widely spread among school-age children. It’s important to note that poor personal hygiene – such as skipped showers or baths or any other hygiene issue – does not typically cause head lice.

Children who live in crowded areas are more prone to get head lice. The reason is that they live close to each other and may share the same bed. Head lice can spread from person to person in two ways. One is direct head-to-head contact, as when your children hug or put their heads closer to read from the same book. The second way is by sharing caps, scarves, hats, hair ties, or any other personal item such as brushes or combs.

Body lice may spread by lice present on unwashed clothing. Unlike the other two kinds of lice, we can prevent the spread of body lice quite easily. Clothes should be washed properly after wearing, and sharing clothing with others should be avoided.

Pubic lice or crabs are usually spread through sexual activity. A child having pubic lice may be a victim of sexual abuse.
