What Are The First Signs of Hip Problems?

Dull and aching hip pain

It can be dull pain that is difficult to pinpoint and not very intense. This type of pain is usually held for an extended period, as in arthritis and osteoarthritis.

  • Sharp hip pain: This type of pain is usually acute and more intense. It affects patients closely after trauma, which is the type of pain you will likely feel on the outer part of the hip or near your buttocks. This severe symptom often leads patients to come to the emergency room in a rush.

To help your doctor understand what you are feeling, you may also need to describe the associated symptoms. For instance:

  • Stiffness: It means that your articulation is locked or difficult to move. Stiffness can be mistaken for a reduction of the range of motion because the articulation is tender. However, you can have stiffness with mild pain, too. You can have this symptom in case of osteoarthritis, femoroacetabular impingement, and other cases of hip arthritis.
  • Popping or snapping sounds of the hips: When you move your hips, it may prompt a popping or snapping sound. Such a sensation has a syndrome of its own, and it is called snapping hip syndrome. It is caused by tightness in your muscles or tendons. Iliopsoas bursitis can also trigger this symptom along with catching of the articulation.
