Pain in other Articulations
If you suffer from arthritis or another systemic disease, chances are that you will suffer from pain in other articulations. Other ailments, such as osteonecrosis of the hip, can also cause pain in close articulations, especially in the knees. Also, if you’re limping or have a balance problem, the compensatory movements to keep you standing can put an extra burden on other articulations and cause pain.
- Limping and limitation in the range of motion: Most causes of hip pain will also cause limping and a restriction in the range of motion. This is particularly prevalent in femoroacetabular impingement but also happens quite often in trochanteric bursitis, hip arthritis, and other painful conditions.
- Warmth and swelling: Arthritis causes inflammation, which is sometimes felt on the overlying skin as warmth and swelling. Localized swelling can also be a sign of an infection in your hip, especially if you recently had trauma or surgical interventions.
- Fever: This is a sign of infection and should alert you that there’s probably septic arthritis going on if you had recent surgery and experienced pain in the same area. Report fever as soon as possible to your doctor, especially after trauma or surgical interventions.
