Extracellular Matrix (ECM)
Extracellular matrix (ECM) is the material that helps in making the body cells to stick together. The function of ECM is somewhat similar to the mortar between the bricks holding the bricks together to form a wall. Due to some reasons, the concentration of ECM is higher in fibroids which make these fibroids more fibrous and fibroids turn into clusters growing more and more. In addition, ECM tends to accumulate growth factors in the fibroids which results in biological changes within the cells themselves.
