Using mild soap or a baby shampoo on eyelids can help to clear up any clogging with dust or oils. Put the mild cleanser on clean fingertips and massage on your close eyes in a gentle manner near the base of the eye lashes and rinse thoroughly.

  • Other procedures that might be helpful to treat dry eyes are:
  • Closing the tear ducts to minimize tear loss:

An eye doctor might suggest a procedure to stop the tears from leaving the eye too rapidly. You can keep your tear duct closed by either partially or completely closing the tear ducts that normally serves to drain the tears away. Tear ducts come with tiny silicone plugs known as punctal plugs and these are removable. In addition, you can also plug the tear ducts with a procedure using the heat known as thermal cautery which is more of a permanent solution.

Using customized contact lenses:

You can consult with your doctor about some special contact lenses that are helpful specifically for the people with dry eyes condition. Some people having a severe condition of dry eyes might opt for special contact lenses that are safe for the surface of eyelids and trap moisture. The special contact lenses are known as bandage lenses or scleral lenses.

Unblocking oil glands:

Warm compresses or steam eye masks can be helpful to clear up the blockage of oil glands if you use them frequently. Another product known as thermal pulsation device is also helpful to unclog the blocked oil glands. However, it is still unclear that thermal pulsation has any edge over warm compresses or not.

Using eyelid massage and light therapy:

A specialized technique known as intense-pulsed light therapy along with a massage of the eyelids can be helpful to treat severe dry eyes.
