If a person has the condition of dry eyes due to blepharitis then the doctor might suggest a steroid or antibiotic eye drop to alleviate the symptoms and reduce inflammation. Topical ointments might also be helpful to minimize and provide relief against dry eyes symptoms. Although these steroid eye drops or topical ointments are helpful for treating dry eyes but they are not as effective as lid scrubs or warm water compresses. Moreover, the doctors prohibit the long-term use of steroid eye drops. The ophthalmologist might recommend the use of an anti-inflammatory medicated eye drop known as cyclosporine for patients with severe dry eye syndrome. For patients with severe symptoms, the doctors also prescribe a daily dose of low concentrated antibiotic known as doxycycline, which is an oral medication to improve the oil glands functioning and decrease inflammation.
