Seizures
Seizures are not a common symptom of mild to moderate meningitis, however, they may develop as the disease progresses. Seizers in meningitis are linked to very high-grade fever and occur when bacterial toxins enter the fluid that surrounds the spinal cord and the brain.
Seizures are more common in bacterial meningitis than viral or other types. Some people may experience generalized seizures that involve all the body parts equally while others experience this symptom in just one area of the body. Some seizures are serious and can lead to disability or death, but there are preventive measures and treatments that can help block them from occurring. Since meningitis is associated with reduced levels of sodium that may also trigger seizures. Resting in a quiet room and anticonvulsant medications can also help lower the severity of the seizure and prevent them.
