As brain cells start degenerating, the functions of brain start to suffer which leads to changes in sleeping habits and behavior. In additions, patients with progressive alzheimer’s also suffer from agitation, paranoia, aggression, and hallucinations. There might be some days where the patient does not look like their own self while on other days they are normal. Here are some suggestions for the caretakers to cope with the changes in behavior and personality of the person dealing with Alzheimer’s:

  • Try to use humor to make the patient comfortable at all times
  • Try to make the patient feel secure
  • Keep things simple by making them do one thing at a time
  • Stick to having a daily routine and make the patient familiar and comfortable with their environment
  • Use distractions for the patients such as dancing, singing, and music
  • Limit caffeine intake
  • Stick to a sleeping routine
  • Try not to express frustration or anger
  • Focus on feelings of patient’s emotions instead of words
