Association of polyps and colon cancer
Depending upon the types, the chances of polyps developing into cancer are variable. The adenomatous polyps are considered pre-cancerous.
Polyps, which are a result of excessive duplication of cells or a result of inflammatory conditions have the least chance of turning into cancer. However, these polyps are removed in order to be safe.
The chances of polyps transforming into cancer are directly proportional to the size of the polyp. Recurrence of polyps is another factor which increases this chance.
