Other Children with Down Syndrome
The parents who have one child with Down syndrome are at higher risk of having another. This chance increases even more if it was trisomy 21 that caused Down syndrome in your first child. However, the risk decreases when the error in cell division happened on the paternal side. If Down syndrome was caused by improper cell division in the egg, it is expected to be repeated in future pregnancies. Seek a genetic counseling specialist if you think that there is a probability of having another child with Down syndrome.
