People who have Down syndrome are still usually capable of having an emotional attachment with relationships. This can assist them in developing cognitive and social skills. People with Down syndrome are also typically capable of having romantic as well as sexual relationships, as most of them usually have functional reproductive systems. However, there is a risk that if women with Down syndrome get pregnant, they are at a much higher risk of giving birth to a child who also has the condition. There are more than 30% chance that Down syndrome can pass from mother to her child directly, and some research even suggests that the risk may increase up to 50%. On the other hand, men with Down syndrome are usually infertile, reducing the risk of them passing it on.
