Drugs
Gynecomastia is a reported side-effect of a number of drugs. Drugs are a major cause of gynecomastia in the elderly population and may also account for a number of pubertal gynecomastia cases. Approximately 10-25% [5] of gynecomastia cases are traced to be drug-induced. Steroid use is a well proclaimed cause of hormonal disturbance. Athletes who have an unmonitored use of steroid for muscle building, are at especially high risk for developing gynecomastia. Some components in exogenous steroid medications are capable of converting into estrogens inside the body.
