Certain herbs and essential oils
Besides uses of essential oils in aromatherapy and healing, new research finds out that essential oils are rich in chemicals which can interfere with the endocrine system of the body. Prepubescent cases of gynecomastia are very rare. Such rare cases are found to be coinciding with the use of essential oils, especially lavender and tea tree oil. Plant based herbs also contain phytoestrogens. These chemicals are similar to the endogenous estrogen, and therefore, a continuous and overuse of these foods and oils can interfere with normal hormonal levels. A list of foods that contain phytoestrogens is as under:
- Flax seed
- Lentils
- Soybeans and soy milk
- Alfalfa
- Oats
- Rice
Idiopathic
In some cases, no underlying cause of gynecomastia is identified. This spontaneity in occurrence, dubbed to be of idiopathic origin.
